The elder to my beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
Loved one, I pray about all things that you may do well and be in health, just as your soul is doing well. 3I greatly rejoiced when brothers came to testify to your truth, just as you are walking in the truth. 4I don't have any greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
Loved one, all you do working for the brothers, even though they are strangers, is a faithful work. 6They testified to your love before the congregation. It would be good for you to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 7For they have gone out for the Name, receiving nothing from the gentiles. 8So we ought to received such people, so that they can become co-workers in the truth.
I wrote something to the church, but Diostrephes, who likes to put himself first, did not receive us. 10Because of this, if I come, I will remember his works that he is doing in speaking evil words against us. And he is not satisfied with these things, he will not receive the brothers, and he stops those who would like to, and throws them out of the church.
Loved one, don't imitate the bad, but imitate the good. The one who does good is from God. The one who does bad has not seen God.
Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone and by truth itself. And we also testify and you know that our testimony is true.
I have many things to write to you, but I don't want to do so with stylus and ink. 14But I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face to face. 15Peace to you! The friends greet you. Greet our friends by name.
