1 Corinthians 11

1Be my imitators as I also imitate Christ.

Covered Heads

2I commend you because you always remember me, and you keep up the traditions in just the way that I passed them on to you. 3I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, but man is the head of a woman, and Christ's head is God. 4Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered shames his own head. 5And any woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered shames her own head. It's just as though she had been shaved. 6For if the woman is not covered, let her also be shaved. And if she finds it disgraceful to have her hair cut or to be shaved, let her also be covered. 7A man should not cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man did not come from woman, but woman came from man. 9For man was not created for the woman, but the woman for the man. 10For this reason a woman should wear a symbol of the authority over her on her head, because of the angels. 11Only there is neither woman without man or man without woman in the Lord. 12For in the same way that woman came from man, so man comes through woman, but all things come from God. 13Discern this among yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God without a covering? 14Doesn't nature itself teach us that if a man has long hair it's a disgrace to him? 15But it's a glory to her for a woman not to have long hair. It was given to her as a covering. 16But is some consider themselvs to be argumentative, we do not practice such a custom, nor do the churches of God.

Communion Abuses

17Now in the following commands I don't commend you, because when you meet for worship, it is for the worse and not better. 18First, when you gather in the church I hear that there are divisions among you, and I believe at least part of it. 19For their must be factions among you, so that those who are worthy might be clearly evident. 20So when you gather in the same place it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. 21For each of you goes ahead with your own meal so some of you are hungry while others are drunk. 22Don't you have houses where you an eat? Do you hate God's church? Do you want to bring shame on those who don't have anything? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you? In this matter, I do not commend you!

Communion

23I passed on to you what I received from the Lord. The Lord Jesus, on the neight he was betrayed, took bread 24and he blessed it and broke it and said, "This is my body which is here on your behalf. Do this to remember me. 25In the same way the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup is the new covenant made with my blood. Do this when you drink it, to remember me. 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

Unworthy Eating of Communion

27Because of this if you eat the bread or drink the wine in a way that is not worthy, you become answerable for the body and the blook of the Lord. 28People should examine themselves, and in this way they should eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29For those who eat and drink eats and drinks condemnation, if they do not discern the body. 30For this reason there are many people who are weak and sick among you and not a few have died. 31But if we judge ourselves, then we won't be judged. 32But God judges and disciplines us so that we won't have to be condemned with the world. 33For this reason my brothers, let's wait for one another when we come together to eat. 34If anyone is hungry, let them eat at home, so that you don't gather together for condemnation. I'll give you instructions about the rest when I come.
