Daniel 9 1In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed
of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans, 2in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the
number of the years concerning which the word of YHWH came to Jeremiah the
prophet, to complete the time of the desolations of Jerusalem, seventy years. 3And I turned my face to the Lord God, to seek by
prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes. 4And I prayed to YHWH my God, and confessed, and said, "Oh,
Lord, the great and dreadful God, who keeps covenant and
lovingkindness with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5we have sinned, and have dealt perversely, and have behaved wickedly, and
have rebelled, turning aside from your precepts and from your
ordinances. 6We also have not obeyed your servants the
prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our
fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7O Lord, you are righteous, but we are guilty, today. The men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and all Israel, those who are near, and those who are far off, throughout all the countries where you have driven them share this guilt because of their sins that they have sinned against thee. 8O Lord, we are the ones in the wrong, along with our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against you. 9The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, for we have rebelled against him. 10Neither have we obeyed the voice of YHWH our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. 11Yes, all Israel has transgressed your law, turning aside so that they did not obey your voice. This is the reason the curse has been poured out upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. 12And he has confirmed his words, which he
spoke against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing
a great evil on us; for what has been done to Jerusalem has not been done under the whole heaven. 13All this evil has come on us as it is written in the law of
Moses. Yet have we not ask for the favor of YHWH our God, so we could turn from our iniquities, and be able to discern your truth. 14Therefore YHWH stuck with the evil, and brought it upon us. For YHWH our God is righteous in whatever he does, and we have not obeyed his voice. 15And now, O Lord our God, who brought your people forth from the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and became famous as you are today. We have sinned, we have behaved wickedly. 16O Lord,
according to all your righteousness, let your anger and your wrath, I
ask you, be turned away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain,
because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem
and your people have become a reproach to all that are round about us. 17Now therefore, O God, hear the prayer of your
servant, and his supplications, and cause your face to shine upon your
sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake. 18O my God, incline yours ear, and hear; open yours eyes, and see our
desolations, and the city that is called by your name: for we do not
present our supplications before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercies. 19O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord,
listen and do! Don't defer, for your own sake, O my God, because your
city and your people are called by your name. 20And while I was
speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people
Israel, and presenting my supplication before YHWH my God for the
holy mountain of my God-- 21while I was still speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, touched me about the time of the evening sacrifice, because he had been made to fly swiftly. 22And he instructed me, and talked with me, and said, O
Daniel, I have come now to give you wisdom and understanding. 23At the beginning of your requests the command was given, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved. So consider the matter, and understand the vision. 24Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to
complete transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make
reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness,
and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place. 25Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the
word to restore and to build Jerusalem to the anointed one,
the prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: it
will be built again, with street and moat, even in troubled times. 26And after the sixty-two weeks the anointed one will be
cut off, and will have nothing: and the people of the prince that
is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the its end
will be with a flood, and there will be war to the end. Desolations are certain. 27And he shall make a firm covenant
with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the
sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations
[shall come] one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and
that determined, shall [wrath] be poured out upon the desolate. Average revision: 1 (ASV programmatically altered)
