John 2

1Three days later there was a wedding in Cana, Galilee, and Jesus' mother was there. 2Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. 3And they ran out of wine, and Jesus' mother told him that they didn't have any more wine. 4Jesus said to her, "What does that have to do with us, woman? My time hasn't come yet!" 5His mother told the servers, "Whatever he says, do it!" 6Now there were six stone water jars there, used for the Jewish ceremonial washing, each one of which could hold 20 gallons or so. 7Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them up to the brim. 8And he said to them, "Now draw some out and carry it to the master of the feast." So they took some to him. 9Now when the master of the feast tasted the water which had become wine, he didn't know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water did) he called the bridegroom, 10and said to him, "Everybody serves the good wine first, and when people are drunk, the poorer wine, but you have kept the good wine till now." 11Jesus did this first sign in Cana of Galilee and revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

12After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they stayed there for many days.

13And the Jewish passover was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14And in the temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and doves, and some seated changing currency. 15So when he had made a whip of cords, he threw them all out of fthe temple, along with the sheep and cattle, and he overturned the tables of those changing currency. 16And he said to those who were selling doves, "Take these things outside! Don't make my Father's house a marketplace!" 17His disciples remembered that it has been written, "The zeal of your house has consumed me." 18Then the Judeans answered and said to him, "What sign do you show us that allows you to do these things?" 19Jesus answered, "Destroy this temple and I will raise it up in three days." 20Then the Judeans said, "This sanctuary was under construction for 40 years, and you will build it in three days?" 21But he said that concerning the sanctuary of his body. 22So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scriptures and the word that Jesus spoke.

23But as he was in Jerusalem, at the passover, at the feast, many believed on his name when they saw the signs that he performed. 24But Jesus didn't put his trust in them, because he knew all things, 25and because he didn't need anyone to testify about a person. For he himself knew what was in a person.
