John 3 1There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Judeans. 2He came to Jesus at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, because nobody could perform the signs that you do unless God was with him." 3Jesus answered him, "I tell you very truly that if you are not reborn from above, you cannot see the kingdom of God." 4Nicodemus said to him, "How can a person be born when he is old? He can't enter into his mother's womb a second time and be born, can he?" 5Jesus answered, "I tell you very truly, if anyone is not born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the spirit is spirit. 7Don't be amazed that I told you, "You must be reborn from above!" 8The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but you don't know where it's coming from or where it's going. That's the way it is with everyone who has been born of the spirit. 9Nicodemus answered him, "How can these things be?" 10Jesus answered him, "You are a teacher of Israel, and you don't know these things? 11I tell you very truly that we speak of the things that we know, and we testify of the things that we have seen, and you don't receive our testimony. 12If I have spoken of earthly things and you do not believe, how can I express heavenly things so you will believe? 13Nobody has gone up into heaven except the one who came down out of heaven, the Sond of Man. 14And just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
16For God loved the world so much that he gave his only son, so everyone who puts their trust in him might now die, but might have eternal life. 17For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge (or condemned) the world, but so the world might be saved through him. 18The who puts his trust in him is not condemned (or judged), but the one who doesn't put his trust in him is already condemned, because he hasn't put his trust in the name of the unique Son of God. 19But this is judgment: The light has come into the world, and people loved darkness more than light because their works were evil. 20For everyone who behaves badly hates the light, and doesn't come to the light, because it rebukes his behavior. 21But the one who does truth comes to the light, because it reveals that his works are doen in God.
22After these things Jesus and his disciples wen to Judea and he stayed there with them and baptized. 23And John was baptizing in Ainon, near Salim, because there was lots of water there, came and were baptizing. 24(John had not yet been thrown into prison.) 25There was a dispute between John's disciples and a Judean about cleansing. 26And they went to John and said to him, "Rabbi, The one who was with you across the Jordan, concerning whom you testified, is now baptizing and everyone is going to him. 27John answered, "A man cannot receive anything that has not been given him from heaven. 28You yourselves are witnesses that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I was sent before him.' 29The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the bridegroom's friend who stands with him and listens to him rejoices at the voice of the bridegroom. That's why my joy is complete!" 30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31The one who came from above is over all things. The one who is from the earth is from the earth, and he speaks things of the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all things. 32The one who has seen and heard this gives testimony and nobody receives his testimony. 33The one who receives his testiomony has put the seal on the fact that God is genuine! 34For the one whom God sent speaks God's words, for God has not given his Spirit by measure. 35The Father loves the Son and has put everything into his hand. 36The one who puts his trust in the son has eternal life. The one who rejects the son will not see life, but God's wrath will rest on him. Average revision: 3 (Draft # 1 by individual translator)
