Mark 2

1A few days later when he returned to Capernaum it was heard that he was at home. 2And many gathered until there was no more room for them, not even around the door, and he was conversing with them about the word. 3And some came bringing a parlytic to him, carried by four men. 4And when they were unable to bring him in because of the crowd, they took off the part of the roof where he was, and when there was a hole they let down the paralytic's mat. 5And when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, "Child! Your sins are forgiven you." 6Now there were certain scribes there sitting and considering in their hearts, 7What is this that this man is saying? He's blapheming! Who can forgive sins except God? 8And immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that they were considering this in themselves, 9and he said to them, "What is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you?' or to say, 'Arise and take your mat, and walk?' 10But so that you may know that the son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins--he says to the parlytic, 11'I say to you, Arise, take your mat and go to your house. 12And he rose up and immediately took his mat and went out before them all, so that everyone was astounded and was glorifying God saying, "We've never seen anything like this!"

13And he went out again by the sea, and the whole crowd kept coming out to him, and he was teaching them. 14As he was going along he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector's station and he said to him, "Follow me!" And he rose up and followed him. 15And he was reclining to dine in his house and many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were lots of them following him. 16But when the scribes of the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 17And Jesus heard and said to them, "Those who are strong don't need a doctor, but those who are sick. I didn't come to call righteous people, but sinners." 18And John's disciples and the Pharisses were fasting, and they came and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the Pharisee's disciples fast, but your disciples don't fast?" 19And Jesus said to them, "The sons of the bridegroom can't fast while the bridegroom is with them, can they? While the bridegroom is with them they cannot fast. 20There are days coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast in that day. 21Nobody puts a patch of new cloth on an old garment. But if not, the new will take up the fulness of the old and a worse tear will happen. 22And nobdy puts new wine into old wineskins. And if not, the wine bursts the wineskins and the wine is destroyed along with the skins. But new wine is put into new wineskins. 23And it happened one Sabbath that he was going threw the grain field, and his disciples began to pluck the stocks of grain. 24And the Pharisees said to him, "Look! Why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath? 25And he saidto them, "Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, both he and those with him, 26How he went into the house of God under Abiathar the High Priest and ate theloaves of the presence, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and he gave also to those who were with him?" 27And he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for human beings, and not human beings for the Sabbath. 28Thus the son of man is also lord of the Sabbath.
