Twitter for Churches

… well, second-hand, at least. I’m going to refer you to this post from Compassion in Politics, which provided me with several additional links. I’m having a hard time still getting the best out of Twitter, both socially and for the business.

Last Sunday at First UMC in Pensacola, I attended the first ICON service, and there I saw an attitude toward technology that would be good for churches. Technology isn’t either “good” or “evil.” It’s a tool. A hammer can pound in a nail, smash your thumb, or cave in a skull–it’s still a hammer.

So what’s the great annoyance of technology at worship services? Yes, indeed! Cell phones ringing when they’re supposed to shut up. Imagine at a service when they call for folks to get out their cell phone and follow the church’s twitter account so as to get updates and announcements. That’s how people get information these days.

In any case, there are a number of good suggestions in the linked post.
