Documents to Go Sync on Palm Centro
I’m sure there are those who picked up on this much more quickly, but in case anyone else gets stalled on synchronizing their Documents-to-Go documents on this little beast (Palm Centro) I thought I’d write a little bit about it. This whole thing illustrates the reason I say that computers are easy, but phones mess me up.
I somehow thought that using the HotSync option would transfer all of my data to my laptop computer, which was the one I wanted to keep updated. All my tasks, memos, and related information from the standard applications were transferred. But Documents to Go wasn’t doing anything. I had a hard time finding the documentation specifically on synchronizing it.
Well, the key is in the Sprint manual for the system which refers you for the Palm which refers you to http://go.palm.com/centro-sprint. (This link obviously applies only to Sprint phones.) There you download the desktop app for Documents to Go. I was so focused on thinking this worked through HotSync (it does, but not as I thought) that I went to that URL with the Palm itself.
Finally, I got my head out into the sunshine and downloaded the desktop app and that works wonderfully well. Once it’s installed everything is pretty much as automatic as I expected it to be. I just didn’t realize that I would need to download the additional application. I’m extremely impressed with the capabilities of the Documents to Go application on this small device. The Palm Centro is probably as small as it could be and still let me use it effectively. I expect to make a great deal of use of Documents-to-Go.
This was rather useful. I too expected my document to be there after I had performed the Hotsync operation. Thanks for the clear directions.
