Fake Amazon Customer Support Ad

There’s a new version of a common scam, one in which someone claims to be customer support for a major company. In this case, the ad falsely purports to be from Amazon and leads to a fake infection warning which claims to be from Windows Defender, and provides a phone number you can call for help. Meanwhile, it locks up your screen.

The latest Cybersecurity Threat Advisory highlights the new false advertisement for Amazon through Google search engine. The advertisement redirects users to a Microsoft Defender support scam that locks up their browser. Barracuda MSP recommends avoiding clicking on any “Sponsored” result links on Google searches for Amazon.

You can learn more at the link provided, but I agree with their basic recommendation: Skip the sponsored ads in your Google search.
